Pixel pitch
The centre-to-centre spacing between neighbouring detector pixels.
What it means
Pixel pitch is the distance between adjacent detector sampling positions, commonly specified in µm. It is different from the camera’s spectral wavelength band.
Together with the pixel count, pitch determines the active detector dimensions. With a fixed lens focal length, a change in pitch changes the angular sampling and field of view. Smaller pitch alone does not guarantee better thermal sensitivity.
640 pixels × 12 µm = 7.68 mm of nominal active detector width.
In practice
Use the actual detector pitch and array size when estimating field of view. Confirm the result against the selected lens specification.
