Thermal fundamentals

Uncooled detector

Microbolometer architecture

A thermal detector that operates without a cryogenic cooler.

What it means

An uncooled thermal detector senses incoming infrared radiation without a cryogenic cooling assembly. The VOx arrays described in the supplied manuals belong to this detector class.

Uncooled does not mean independent of temperature. Warm-up, module temperature, correction algorithms and the mechanical heat path can all affect the delivered image.

In practice

Integration note

Allow the specified startup time and assess image behaviour across the intended ambient-temperature range in the finished enclosure.
