Thermal palette

Colour mapping

The visual mapping from thermal image values to grayscale or colour.

What it means

A palette maps image values to display colours. White hot, black hot and iron-style colour maps are examples found in thermal camera software.

Changing a palette changes the presentation of the image. It does not add detector pixels or establish a new temperature accuracy.

In practice

Integration note

Record the palette and image scale when sharing comparison images. Keep access to the original data for quantitative analysis.
