System integration

Latency

Scene-to-consumer delay

The elapsed time between a scene event and its availability to the consuming system.

What it means

Thermal-system latency includes acquisition, processing, transport, buffering and any host-side decoding or display. Different integration tasks may measure different endpoints.

A high nominal frame rate does not guarantee low latency. Correction behaviour and repeated or buffered frames also matter when current scene information is required.

In practice

Integration note

Define the start and end of your latency measurement, then test the complete camera, interface and host pipeline.
