Focal length
A lens parameter that helps set scene coverage for a given detector.
What it means
Focal length is commonly specified in millimetres. With the same detector dimensions, a longer focal length generally gives a narrower field of view.
Two products using a lens with the same nominal focal length can have different FOVs because the detector size, optical design or quoted angle convention differs.
In practice
Specify focal length together with detector resolution, pixel pitch, horizontal/vertical FOV and the matching assembly drawing.
